John E. Drury

John Drury's work seeks to integrate linguistic and psycholinguistic perspectives on the knowledge, processing, and acquisition of language with research in cognitive neuroscience, with a specific focus on the use of electrophysiological measurement techniques (e.g., EEG/ERPs). Prior to joining the faculty at Stony Brook, Dr. Drury held postdoctoral research positions in the Department of Neuroscience at Georgetown University, and in the School of Communication Sciences and Disorders at McGill University. He is presently investigating the neural underpinnings of both first (L1) and second (L2) language acquisition and processing, including studies of the lexicon, syntax, interactions of speech prosody with syntax/semantics, morpho-syntax and inflectional (ir)regularity, and the connections between language and inference (i.e., syntax/semantics/pragmatics interfaces).
