Frank Anshen's most recent research has involved constructing and validating a model of lexical storage and retrieval of morphologically complex words. He has posited a “race horse” model of lexical access in which speakers attempt simultaneously to find needed words in their lexicon and to construct needed items by the application of morphological rules to higher frequency forms. He is also investigating how politically or ideologically motivated lexical innovations may be incorporated into the lexicon in unintended ways.
